When disaster strikes, we rise. The Lamar County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a dedicated group of trained volunteers committed to helping our neighbors during emergencies—whether it's a natural disaster, public safety crisis, or community-wide event.
We work hand-in-hand with local first responders to provide critical support when it's needed most. From basic medical aid and search-and-rescue to disaster preparedness education, our mission is simple: empower, protect, and serve our community.

Uncover our story
The CERT story is rooted in a powerful idea: ordinary people can do extraordinary things when disaster strikes.
The concept began in 1985, when Los Angeles officials studied Japan’s earthquake preparedness and saw how trained neighborhood teams could respond effectively. Later that year, they visited Mexico City after a devastating 8.1 magnitude earthquake. Volunteers there saved hundreds of lives—but tragically, over 100 untrained rescuers died in the process.
